Leon County, Florida– It’s been almost a month since Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sent out a memo to Tom Berger, Director of Real Estate Management and Development, Nick Maddox, Chairman, Leon County Commissioners, John Dailey, Mayor, Tallahassee directing the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the Leon County Courthouse, Tallahassee’s City Hall, and the State Capitol to honor former Florida’s Second Judicial Circuit Judge James “Jimmy” Hankinson, who died on July 6, 2023. James C. Hankinson was a judge in Tallahassee for about eighteen years. In the memo, Governor DeSantis states, in part, “Judge Hankinson will be remembered as a dedicated public servant, father, and friend.”
Clearly, Governor DeSantis does not know about the complaint that was filed with the Judicial Qualifications Commission against Judge Hankinson, former Second Judicial Circuit Judge Jackie Fulford, and other judges within Florida’s Second Judicial Circuit. Judge James “Jimmy” Hankinson favored child molesters in his courtroom. Judge Hankinson, along with former Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell and former Second Judicial Circuit State Attorney William “Willie” Meggs deliberately allowed men to prey upon innocent boys.
Many former and current Second Judicial Circuit officials were never “dedicated public servants.” And there is absolutely nothing honorable about anyone who favors child molesters—especially in a court of law. There’s absolutely nothing honorable about James C. Hankinson.
